Today the demo reel is essentially a necessary evil. Ignoring it is the equivalent of ignoring your career. It is the single tool that has the most significant impact on whether or not you get the job. Unfortunately, it is also the tool that becomes useless as soon as you get the job because that new material must now be used on your demo reel. So, it is a constant and very annoying reality that you can not ignore. You will be judged by the least successful part of your demo, so tremendous effort must go into making the demo reel as perfect as possible.
It must look professional. If you do not have real material to cut in, the material you make must appear as though it comes from real material. The average demo real consists of four to five 60 second clips each demonstrating your best work and a variety of work including different directorial styles, NTSC vs. film, etc. If you are a verified member of IndieSOS, you never again have to worry about the cost associated with building or maintaining your demo reel.
